¡Padre!

MY FATHER'S HAND

Looking at the lines of your hand
I see past and future hardships
Looking at the palm of your hand
I see the sky of my childhood,
Once I could fly to the moon
And the stars would carry all our dreams.

Father! Time has passed
I have dropped out of your dreams
And entered my own life
I have held the broken fragments
Of your dreams in my tiny hand
I have sharpened them
Ground them down
And sharpened them once again
To live
To believe
To love
To protect myself.

Father! If one day I let my life be shattered again,
I know you would pick up the pieces,
Even though they cut your palm,
Even though they hurt you deeply.
