WALKING
ON WATER
Having
learned how to walk on coals
We easily learned how to walk on water
In the beginning things were a bit difficult
We drenched our trouser cuffs and our wives wet
The hems of their dresses, the boys splashed
Scared, there was fear in every step and any
Instability made us tremble. We always
Started from the shallows and ended up
On the open sea.
The
trick was not to think of the water
But to concentrate on other things
Such as green days in the countryside
Spring valleys filled with poppies
Tufts of hair in fired up cheeks
Red eyes in train stations
But to concentrate on other things
Such as green days in the countryside
Spring valleys filled with poppies
Tufts of hair in fired up cheeks
Red eyes in train stations
Now
we’ve gotten used
To walking on water
We are so cool at it
That we have trouble walking on the ground
To walking on water
We are so cool at it
That we have trouble walking on the ground

Ludovic Fesson.
desconocidos.

VIDA
EN EL AGUA
He
conocido esos estuarios—
canaletas
y canales
que
fluyen y giran hacia el Pacífico,
he
tocado ligeramente ese lodoso estiércol
sentido
el resquemor en la garganta
donde
la sal en el aire es la sal de la costa,
me
he detenido donde la marea es incompleta:
ni
olas grandes ni espuma,
sólo
un reflujo que mece a los caminantes—
un
destello de plata, el estruendo del mújol
en
la noche, cangrejos de fango empujándose
cueva
he
pescadillos
en atardeceres verdes,
lanzo
trampas para cangrejos en trayectoria libre
para
mirar dilatarse las ondas oscuras
seguí
barcos camaroneros en mar abierto
regresar
lentamente en la madrugada púrpura
luego
me senté a la orilla del muelle
y
desbullé esos camarones tigre
tiré
sus cabezas succionadas adentro de la oscuridad,
trituré
caparazones de mejillón bajo mis pies
para
sentir el ardor agudo de la quitina,
caminé
donde las rayas eléctricas retozan y reposan,
moviendo
su aguijón esperando arponear.
He
noches
en las que no he sabido
si
estoy contrayéndome o expandiéndome otra vez,
donde
el movimiento del agua
es
el movimiento de mi mente –
interminables
vaivenes
de
sonidos y confines, esos puntos de entrada
a
agua
suficientemente vasta para dividir una vida.

THALASSOGRAPHY
I
have known these estuaries-
the
channels and canals, the backwaters
that
flush and eddy to the pacific,
I
have skimmed that muddied slurry
felt
the nip in the throat
where
the salt in the air is the salt of the coast,
I
have tacked where the tide is incomplete:
no
rollers and breakers,
only
an ebb that rocks the wayfarers –
a
rush of silver, the gavel-smack of mullet
in
the night, mud crabs elbowing
denwards
under concrete slabs of boat ramps –
I
have stalked where herons stilt and spear
baitfish
in green afternoons,
cast
crab pots in loose analemmas
to
watch the black sonar spread,
tracked
prawn trawlers on the broadwater
crawling
back in the lavender dawn
then
sat at the jetty’s edge
and
shucked those tiger shells,
cast
sucked heads back into the dark,
crushed
mussel shell underfoot
for
the burn of sharpened chitin,
stepped
where stingrays wallow and idle,
shuffling
their barbs, waiting to strike.
I
have spent half my life in low tide –
nights
where I have not known
if
I am contracting or dragging out again,
where
the movement of the water
is
the movement of my mind –
unending
comings and goings
of
sounds and narrows, those entry points
to
my two continents – and my history
is
the history of currents: a canal small enough
to
catch a childhood in its net,
water
vast enough to divide a life.

Andy Goldsworthy.
Premio del Internacional Festival of Films on Art de Montreal.
Andy
Goldsworthy (UK, 1956). Es un escutor, fotógrafo y ecologista
británico residente en Escocia. Realiza escultura y land art en
emplazamientos naturales y urbanos. Los materiales que usa para sus
esculturas son: flores, carámbanos, hojas, barro, piñas, nieve,
piedras, ramas y espinas.

THE WATER DROP
The water drop
is a model of conciseness,
the entire universe
locked in a pin-point of water.
The drop represents flood and thirst,
the vast Amazon and the great ocean.
The drop was there at the beginning of the world.
It's the mirror, the abyss,
life's house and death's fluidity.
To put it briefly, the water drop is populated with beings
that fight each other, exterminate each other, couple with each other.
They can't escape it,
their screams are useless.
Like everyone they ask:
what's it about,
how long are we here,
what did we do wrong
to wind up prisoners of our water drop?
And no one listens.
Darkness and silence spin around the drop,
a speck of light in the night of the cosmos
where there is no answer.

Solita viene
con sus olitas la mar.
La mar con su salecita,
solita, sola,
se va.

En una gota de agua
caben tres ríos
y en un instante
el infinito.

PARA NADA,
para nada nadaba
el pez en el agua,
para nada
y nadaba y nadaba.

Cuando
te deslizas por mis superficies ya
escurridizas y de poco fiar
escurridizas y de poco fiar
me
recuerdas que soy líquido,
me haces descuidar todo menos
caer, verter, inundar.
me haces descuidar todo menos
caer, verter, inundar.
Todo
hielo quiere ser agua.
Escucha:
aquel
sonido al borde de lo oscuro
es el tictac del hielo del mundo.
es el tictac del hielo del mundo.
Traducción
de Ben Bollig & Roberto Rodriguez-Saona en Confines.

When
you slide along my already
slick and unreliable surfaces,
slick and unreliable surfaces,
you
remind me I am liquid,
you make me care about nothing except
falling, spilling, flooding.
you make me care about nothing except
falling, spilling, flooding.
All
ice wants to be water.
Listen
-
that
sound at the edge of the dark
is the world's ice ticking.
is the world's ice ticking.
